Mrs. Betty Thaggard Dixon, age 83, of Vidalia, died December 5, 2022, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was born in Savannah, but lived in Vidalia most of her life. She was a 1957 graduate of Claxton High School and a graduate of Brewton-Parker College where she earned an Associates of Arts degree. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Vidalia and attended many years until her illness. She and her husband Bobby founded and led Christian Concepts for Living, a marriage counseling ministry, for many years. She also led many Bible studies for ladies. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby R. Dixon; parents, Neill A. Thaggard and Eula Neville Thaggard; brother, Neill A. Thaggard, Jr. and wife Joan; sister, Jane Thaggard Adams; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mayor Hugh M. Dixon and Myrtice J. Dixon Young; and brother-in-law, Mayor Ronnie A. Dixon.
Her family includes her three children, Kathy Dixon Usher, and Bob and Suzanne Dixon, all of Vidalia, and Lynn and Steve Dean of Roswell; grandchildren, Rebekah Usher, Rachel Sikes (Jordan) both of the New Branch Community, John Dixon (Elizabeth) of Newnan, Elizabeth Madison (Mike) of Birmingham, Alabama, Abigail Dixon, Paul Dixon (Chelsea), all of Smyrna, Katherine Jenkins (Austin) of Brookhaven, Anna Beverly (Lance) of Birmingham, Alabama, William Harris and Turner Harris, both of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Katlyn McIntyre of New Branch, Drew Vaughn of New Branch, David Dixon of Newnan, Ansley Dixon of Newnan, Hank Madison of Birmingham, Alabama and Jack Jenkins of Brookhaven; brother, Wendell Dixon (Elaine) of Vidalia; sisters-in-law, Sandy Dixon (the late Mayor Ronnie Dixon) of Vidalia, and Rita Thaggard (the late Neill Thaggard) of Jacksonville, Florida.
The funeral service will be Wednesday morning, December 7th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Don Moye officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.
