Mrs. Annette Maddox Nelms, age 79, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at East Georgia Medical Center in Statesboro after a brief illness. She was a native of Laurens County, living there until moving to Vidalia in 1979, and she was a 1964 graduate of East Laurens High School. She was homemaker, caregiver, and while in Dublin, worked at Uniroyal for several years. She was a member of First Assembly of God in Vidalia. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, laughter, bird watching, especially hummingbirds, collecting all thing hummingbirds, listening to gospel music, particularly the Gaithers, shopping and taking care of and loving her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Avey Maddox, Sr. and Florene Tapley Maddox; and two brothers, John Wesley Maddox and Daniel Avey “Danny” Maddox, Jr.
Her family includes her husband of fifty-five years, Hugh Adrian Nelms of Vidalia; four children, Jason Nelms of Vidalia, Shane Nelms of Alston, Adrian “Smokey J” Nelms and wife Ann, and Melody Ann Kilmer, all of Port Hadlock, Washington; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her beloved cats, Oscar and Holly.
A graveside funeral service will be Saturday afternoon, May 17th, 2025, at 3:00 at Dublin Memorial Gardens, 2986 U.S. Hwy 80, Dublin, GA. Reverend Hugh Spivey and Pastor Michael Godbee will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 noon until 2:00.
Pallbearers are Jeff Waldrep, Allen Nelms, Austin Kirkland, Shane Maddox, Greg Nelms, and Paul Suggs.
