Mrs. Anna Maria Payton “Reccee” Dowdy, age 53, of Mt. Vernon, died Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was born on November 9, 1970, in Ft. Pierce, Florida. In 1976, she moved to Wheeler County and was a 1988 graduate of Wheeler County High School. She lived in Toombs County for several years before moving to Mt. Vernon in 2009. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She attended Bethel Baptist Church in Wheeler County, and she enjoyed reading, her dogs, music, decorating her home, and sharing stories about her family. She is preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Franklin “B.F.” Payton, and a brother, Scott Payton.
Her family includes her husband of thirty-seven years, Kris “Cozmo” Dowdy of Mt. Vernon; three children, Kristopher R. Dowdy and wife Macy of Kite, Montana Jade Dowdy of Mt. Vernon, and Autumn Dowdy and Parker Harris of Glenwood; one granddaughter, Violet Dowdy of Kite; her mother, Sandy Johnson Payton of Soperton; one brother, Ashley B. Payton and wife Amanda; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Wednesday morning, October 9th, at 11:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Price officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jeff Smith, Thomas Avery, Jeff Crowe, Harold Johnson, Jr., Timothy Tolbert, and Tim Dowdy.
