Anita "Ludy" Fountain Barlow Thompson

Mrs. Mary Anita “Ludy” Fountain Barlow Thompson, age 86, of Mt. Vernon, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin. She was a native of Montgomery County, until moving to Griffin in 2013.  She was a member of the Ailey Baptist Church, Ailey and an avid Braves baseball fan.  She was a loving mother and grandmother; she enjoyed sewing and making her granddaughters’ dresses, needlepoint, coloring art and gardening.   

Mrs. Thompson graduated from Mount Vernon-Ailey High school, and she was a member of the high school basketball team.  She was a graduate of Brewton Parker Junior College and was a member of the women’s basketball team.  She taught first grade at Glenwood Elementary School and coached the high school girls’ basketball team while pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree at Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro.  After earning her Bachelor’s Degree, she taught second grade at Montgomery County Elementary School for thirty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Cannie Fountain and Martha Palmer Fountain; a brother David Fountain; sisters Helen Fountain McArthur and DeAlva Fountain; first husband, James Barlow; second husband James Earl Thompson.

She is survived by two sons, Doctors Jim and Trish Barlow of Griffin, and Ricky Barlow and wife Robin Barlow of Hernando, Florida; six grandchildren, Jennifer Griffith and husband Steven of Beverly Hills, Florida and Rachel Oliver and husband Andy St Petersburg, Florida, Lauren Barlow of Chamblee, Leah Barlow of Marietta, Lily Barlow of Columbus, and Luke Barlow of Marietta; great-grandchildren, Holden Griffith, Lincoln Griffith, Ryan Griffith, Liam Oliver and Evan Oliver; two sisters June Fountain and Betty Jo Fountain, both of Mount Vernon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2nd, at the Thompson Cemetery, Ailey, GA, with Reverend Curtis Beaird and Reverend Thomas Rhodes officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ailey Baptist Church, P.O. Box 148, Ailey, GA 30410.
