Alvin Powell, Jr. Obituary

Alvin Carlton “Carl” Powell, Jr. (aka: “Cowboy” or “Bubba Trump”, his on-air radio personality), age 70, of Vidalia, went to his heavenly home on July 31, 2024, after several years of declining health.  He was born June 11, 1954, in Jackson, Mississippi.  Later, the family moved back to his parents’ home state of Georgia. Carl grew up and spent his childhood in several cities in Georgia as well as Florida.  In 1966, the family returned to Jackson, Mississippi, and he became a Forest Hill School and a Hinds Jr. College Tech School alumnus.  He joined the United States Army National Guard and served our country for more than twenty years.  After retiring from the service, he moved back to the Lyons and Vidalia areas to be near his parents.  He became a truck driver, just like his dad, who owned and operated the trucking company.   Carl also had several other jobs and was a very hard worker.  He was employed several years by some very special friends, Gary and Lisa Phillips, whom he loved like family.  He loved helping others and was deeply appreciative of those who helped him!  He was a member of The Sanctuary Church in Vidalia, and he loved his pastor and his church family deeply.  Carl loved telling his story of hearing the pastor on television, then attending the church one Friday night, and re-dedicating his life.  He wanted others to know that this was the answer to more than thirty-five years of prayer from his family.  He wanted people to never give up on praying for others!  He enjoyed going to the gym, going to flea markets, but he particularly enjoyed watching Trump Rallies.  He was a true, loyal Trump supporter for many years, and anyone who knew him, knew it as well, especially when they heard him as “Bubba Trump” on his radio spot.  He was preceded in death by his parents, “Alvin” C. Powell, Sr. & “Gladys” O’Neal Powell of Lyons.

His family includes his sister, Nan Sullivan of Brandon, Mississippi; two nephews, Pastor Derrek Sullivan and wife Ann, and their family, Zak Brett Drayden, all of Huntsville Alabama, and Pastor Josh Sullivan and wife Christy, and their family, Faith Hope Justus, all of Malden, Missouri; one niece, Nicole Sullivan Neagle and family, Haven Kanen Danara, all of Huntsville, Alabama; many close cousins in Georgia, Florida and Delaware; and many friends throughout the years.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be Saturday morning, August 24th at 11:00 at Collins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Lyons. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until just prior to the memorial service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sherry Damron Ministries, PO Box 2555, Vidalia, GA 30475.
