Mr. Almeric “Big Al” Humphrey, age 66, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Memorial Health in Savannah, following an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County, living in Vidalia all of his life, and was a 1976 graduate of Vidalia High School. He retired as a substance abuse counselor who dedicated his life to drug recovery in Vidalia. He worked at numerous drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities across Southeast Georgia, including Pineland BHDD. He is credited as one of the first individuals to bring Narcotics Anonymous to Vidalia in order to establish a support network for addicts who wish to pursue and maintain a drug-free lifestyle. He enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and Atlanta Braves; playing Monopoly Go, and coloring pictures for his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Almeric Charleston “A.C.” Humphrey and Dorothy Sammons Humphrey; and a sister, Rhonda Humphrey.
His family includes his wife of twenty-six years, Zo’Ann Sellers Humphrey; one son, John Humphrey and wife Kayla of Lyons; one daughter, Angel Humphrey and husband Michael of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Emersyn Humphrey and Evan Humphrey of Lyons; one brother, Charles Humphrey of Ailey, one sister, Linda Peterson of Vidalia; one sister-in-law, Marcie Sellers and Charlene of Jesup; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday afternoon, May 10th, 2025, at 2:00 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Blake Hardiman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 until just prior to the service.
