Mrs. Alice Wheeler Poole, age 81, of the Charlotteville Community in Montgomery County, died Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was a native of Long County and grew up at Smiley’s Crossroads Community there. She was a 1961 graduate of Long County High School and earned an Associate degree at St. Leo College at Ft. Stewart. She lived in Long County until moving to Glennville in 1973, and she has made Charlotteville home since 1987. Mrs. Poole was a civil service employee for more than thirty years, retiring as an accountant, and she worked with Montgomery School System as a media specialist paraprofessional. She attended Smyrna and Charlotteville Churches. She enjoyed shopping and traveling, she was an excellent cook and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rudy Willard “Rudy” Wheeler, Sr. and Mary Josephine “Jody” Smiley Wheeler.
Her family includes her devoted husband of thirty-seven years, Jim Paul Poole of Charlotteville; three children, Sherry Barnes and husband Jeff, Tim Hodges and wife Angie, and Jill Joseph, all of Glennville; one stepson, Tim Poole and wife Carrie of Hazlehurst; one brother, Rudy W. Wheeler, Jr. and wife Joni of Hilton Head, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Brad Whitlow of Glennville, Lindy Joseph of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lee Joseph and Ross Hodges of Glennville, and Brianna Hodges of Reidsville; three great-grandchildren, Greyson, Hayes, and Madden; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
A graveside funeral service will be Tuesday afternoon, April 8th, 2025, at 4:00 at Dead River Cemetery with Pastor Melvin Kramer officiating.
