Mrs. Alice Wood Joyner, age 84, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Eagle Health & Rehab in Statesboro following an extended illness. Born in Montgomery County to the late Chauncey Wood and Lillie Lorene Hughes Wood, she lived in Toombs County most of her life and Johnson Corner since 1954. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell South for many years, and retired from Oxford Industries in Lyons. She was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church in Johnson Corner where she taught Vacation Bible School, served as secretary of the Ladies Ministries, and Hospitality and Bereavement Committee Chair. She enjoyed needlework, fishing, reading, word search, and talking on the phone. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Joyner; grandson, Brian Anders; great-grandson, Christopher Lane Roberson; and seven siblings, Alex, Charles, Carl, Opal, Mildred, Catherine, Sue, and an infant brother, Wilmer.
Her family includes her devoted children, Patsy Anders and husband Alton of Greenville, North Carolina, Janice Miller and husband Keith of the South Thompson Community, Paul Joyner, and Mary Ann Gray and husband Jimmy, all of Johnson Corner; six grandchildren, Wes Miller and wife Whitney, Amy Roberson and husband Robert, Amber Greer and husband Brian, Matthew Howell and wife Emily, Jamie Gray and wife Dona, Mandy Gray, and Kenan Anders; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, May 6th, from 6:00 until 8:00.
The funeral service will be Sunday, May 7th, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Ricky Dyal officiating.
