Mr. William C. “Cigar” Willett, II, age 86, of the Ohoopee Community, died Sunday, October 6, 2019, in The Oaks-Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Newbern, North Carolina and lived there until enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He lived in several cities in Georgia before moving to Toombs County in 1970 and ultimately to Ohoopee. He retired as paint supervisor after many years with Georgia Power working on several power plants in Georgia. He was a member of the Ohoopee Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Ann Davis Willett; and parents, William Conover Willett and Lila Davis Willis.
Mr. Willett is survived by three children, Gail Willett of Ohoopee, Diana Willett Varnadoe and husband Wayne of Lumber City, and Billy Willett and wife Anna Beth of Ohoopee; five sisters, Edna Davis, Natalie Johnson, Jean Elison, Ann Weems and Linda Holland and husband Larry; two brothers, Albert Willett and Mickey Willis and wife Peggy, all of North Carolina; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 9th at 3:00 p.m. in the Ohoopee Baptist Church with Johnny McCullough and Reverend Bruce Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Ohoopee Community Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
