Mr. Wayne Beckum, age 78, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at his home, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Washington County, and as a child, he and his family moved to Toombs County in the mid 1940’s.  He was a 1957 graduate of Vidalia High School, and served in the Army National Guard.  He was a Deacon and member of the Smith Street Baptist Church, and was Past Master and member of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330.  He worked with Piggy Wiggly Southern for more than thirty years.  In 1997, he and his wife moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he worked with Sysco Corporation for seven years as a refrigeration engineer, and upon retirement, returned to Vidalia in 2004.  He was preceded in death by his parents, L.T. and Pearl Logan Beckum.

Mr. Beckum is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jeannine Mixon Beckum of Vidalia; three children, Alex Beckum and wife Joy of the New Branch Community, Patti Beckum McCall and husband David of St. Mary’s, and Thomas Beckum and wife Paige of Berkeley Lake in Gwinnett County; two sisters, Nelda Beckum Garrett and husband Mack of Lyons, and Vickie Beckum Moseley and husband Kenny of the Orland Community in Treutlen County; two brothers, Jerry Beckum and wife Margie of Vidalia, and Bobby Beckum and wife Ann of Santa Claus; seven grandchildren, Lucas, Leigha, Rebecca, Rachel, Kevin, Kaiden, and Cody; two great-grandchildren, Lawson and Maycee Rae; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Chester Proctor officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
