Thomas Edward Horne, 86, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Montgomery County, Georgia on May 20, 1932.
He survived polio at 2 years old and continued a normal healthy life. He was a graduate of Tombs Central High School. He married Shirley Sorrels in 1953 and had four sons. Mr. Horne retired after 44 years with Ryder/Pie Truck Lines and worked for Union Camp Corporation for three years until retirement in 1995. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class. Upon retirement, he enjoyed frequent fishing trips up the Savannah River for catfish and having fish fries for family, friends and church. He was an amateur wine maker, blue berry and peach being his favorites. On Saturday mornings he could be found visiting the weekend yard sales, haggling over fishing reels and tools, followed up with breakfast at McDonalds with Shirley and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Shirley S. Horne of Savannah; sons, Thomas Daniel “Dan” Horne and his wife Michelle; Richard Lamar “Rick” Horne and his wife Glenda; David Keith Horne and his wife Gwendolyn; Brian Ashley Horne; granddaughters Kimberly, Amanda Tamera and Aimee; brother-in-law, Bud Avera and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard T. and Ella Jane Chambers Horne.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2018 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Immanuel Baptist Church.
The interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1688 Currie Rd., Uvalda, Georgia.
