Vidalia,

Mrs. Simone Carroll Gruber, age 50, of Vidalia, died Sunday, September 10, 2017, at her home.  She was a native of Vidalia, and was a 1983 graduate of Lyons Senior High.  She earned an Associate Degree from Brewton-Parker College, and a Business Degree, Master’s Degree and an Education Specialist from Georgia Southern University.  She began her teaching career in Claxton where she taught pre-kindergarten and special education. Later, she taught special education at J.D. Dickerson, and Sally Meadows where she was awarded Teacher of the Year at both schools, and also taught special education at J.R. Trippe.  She was a media specialist in the Duval County School System in Jacksonville, Florida, and presently taught fifth grade science at Reidsville Elementary School.  She had been selected as a member of the Mensa Society.  She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and attended Calvary on Aimwell.  She was preceded in death by her father Randall Carroll.

Mrs. Gruber is survived by her husband Gary Gruber of Vidalia; two children Randall Carroll Dixon of Vidalia and Christy Dixon O’Neal of Mt. Vernon; her mother Billie Jean Burch Fortner of Vidalia; two sisters Gina Sumner and husband Randy of Marietta and Natalie Jones Mosley and husband Jason of Vidalia; one brother Byron Carroll; two grandchildren Christopher William Rice of Vidalia and Autumn Mackynzee Hutley of Mt. Vernon; one great-grandchild Cayson Alec Rice; and seven nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Efton Green officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
