Shirley (Sconyers) Hooks

Mrs. Shirley Sconyers Hooks, age 75, of the Petross Community, died Saturday, June 29, 2019, in Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, after injuries received in an automobile accident in Bryan County on Thursday.  She was a native of Toombs County, living in Brunswick for twelve years, and returned to Toombs County in 1975.  Shirley worked at several shirt and garment factories before working at Bethany Assisted Living and retired in 2006.  She was a caregiver for her family while her parents worked; raising siblings and then taking care of others in their home.  She was a member of Cobb Creek Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Hooks; a daughter, Tammy Hooks; a grandson, Rusty Strickland; parents, Roy and Thelma Williams Sconyers; one sister, Rhonda Powell; and two brothers, Roy Lendy Sconyers and Thomas Roy Sconyers.

Mrs. Hooks is survived by three children, Sharon Hooks of Uvalda, Lisa Kerr and husband Mike of Hazlehurst, and Eric Hooks and wife Lori of Hazlehurst; a niece who she raised as a daughter, Diane McGahee Caraway of Vidalia; one brother, Billy Sconyers and wife Donnalene of Vidalia; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 2nd, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Bargeron officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cobb Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 and will assemble at the residence of a daughter, Lisa Kerr, 442 J.A. Yawn Road, Hazlehurst.
