South Thompson Community,
Mr. Sherward Garrett, age 82, of the South Thompson Community, died Sunday, August 26, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness. He was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, was a 1954 graduate of Toombs Central High School, and has lived in the South Thompson Community since 1963. He served eight years in the U.S. Army, and was an outside salesman for Vidalia Motor Parts for the majority of his working life. He was a member and Deacon of the South Thompson Baptist Church, where served in several capacities within the church, including Treasurer for more than forty years. He enjoyed woodworking and making wooden desk clocks. He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Garrett; parents, John Wade Garrett and Johnnie Will Thompson Garrett; brothers, Dwayne Garrett and two infant brothers.
Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Yvonne Stephens Garrett; one daughter, Melisa “Lisa” Garrett Thompson and husband Kenny; one grandson, Justin Thompson, all of South Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 28th at 10:00 a.m. in the South Thompson Baptist Church with Pastor B.L. Horne and Reverend Ronald Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
