Mrs. Ruth Herring Watkins, age 79, of McDonough, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in the Westbury Nursing Home in McDonough, after a brief illness. She was a native of Glenwood, living in Lyons for thirty years, and has lived in McDonough since 2010. She worked with Oxford Industries for several years, and with Farmer’s Furniture in Lyons and Reidsville. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Lyons, and enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Watkins in 2013; a daughter, Melissa Watkins; parents, Barton and Gertrude Herring; two sisters, Betty Graham and Annie Jo Edenfield; and a brother, Mitchell Herring.
Mrs. Watkins is survived by two sons, Andrew B. Watkins and wife Marcia Lynn of McDonough, and C. Dennis Watkins and wife Marisa of Santa Teresa, New Mexico; a granddaughter, Haley Watkins of Lyons; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Ben Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens County.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
