Mrs. Ruth Harper Collins, age 70, of Mt. Vernon, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of South Charleston, West Virginia, living in Tampa, Florida and West Palm Beach for many years before moving to Mt. Vernon in 1999. She was a homemaker, retired from Royal Apartments as apartment manager, and was Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley E. “Bud” Collins; two sons, David Hill, Jr. and George Concord Hill; parents, Charles and Ruth Harper; three brothers, Woodrow Harper, Roger Harper, and Charles Harper; and one sister, Joyce Lockhart.
Mrs. Collins is survived by five children, Carolyn Tarani and husband Mario of Claxton, Renee Weeks of Mt. Vernon, Eugenia “Jeannie” Breedlove and husband Todd of Vidalia, Jackie West and husband Timothy, and Charles Hill, all of Mt. Vernon; one sister, Donna Withrow and husband Steve; one brother, Frankie Harper and wife Connie all of West Virginia; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend B.L. Horne and Reverend Arnie Raj officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
