Rufus Milligan

August 25, 1923 ~ July 20, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Mr. Rufus Garrett Milligan, 93, of Callahan, Florida went home to Heaven to be with Jesus on July 20, 2017. He was born on August 25, 1923 in Montgomery County,(Mt. Vernon) Georgia. He was the son of Joseph Otto and Ammie Ruth Garrett Milligan. He was a WWII communications veteran, serving in Germany. He retired from the Railroad Industry in 1987 after thirty-eight years as a CSX Signal Maintainer. Most of all Rufus was a Christian man, devoted husband, loving father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and a prime example of living for the Jesus. One of his lifelong hobbies was farming and gardening at home. He kept his family supplied with the fruits of his labor year-round. He loved music and entertained his family with his musical talent, playing the string instruments Violin, Ukulele, and Dulcimer. He so loved his family, friends, church family and lost souls. He loved to share God’s word and was dedicated to sharing it with all. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Callahan, where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher in past years. Rufus was the best story teller to all who would listen, and his jokes of life in general amused and entertained both children and adults throughout his life. His humor, storytelling, bible study and dedication to family was truly admired. He will be forever missed by his family, friends and all who loved him. His legacy wish would be his faithful Christian walk would be passed down as an example to future generations to come.

He is survived by his lovely wife of sixty-five years Marleen Milligan, Three children- Deborah Lynn (John), Ronald Milligan (Jeanne), Timothy Milligan (Donna) Brothers- Joe “Junior” Milligan, Billy Milligan (Lynette “Pinky”), Donald Milligan (Sandy), and Mayo Milligan Sisters- Bernice Callahan and Ruth Branch Grandchildren- Stacie Shorten (Ken), Amy Bradbury (Mike), Trey Lynn (Ann), Lorrie Bell (Wayne), Sherri Milligan (Jeffery Griffin), Jodi Nuszkowski(John), Paul Thornton (Shay), April Stanford (Ron), Kathryn Brown (Adam), Destiny Henderson-Rathore (Depok), Raen Henderson, Mark Henderson (Enitra), Melissa Milligan and Melanie Milligan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Brothers- Aubrey Milligan and Paul Milligan, Sisters- Sarah Smith and Frances Witt

Monday- July 24, 2017 - 6pm-8pm- Visitation- First Baptist Church of Callahan Tuesday- July 25, 2017 - 2pm - Home Going Services- First Baptist Church of Callahan Family and friends welcome, followed by a meal provided by the church. Wednesday- July 26, 2017 - 11am- Georgia Memorial Service Ronald V Hall Funeral Home - 310 North Street West, Vidalia, Georgia, 30474 Graveside Interment following service- Pinecrest Cemetery- Vidalia, Georgia
