Ronald Raymond Keen

August 14, 1944 ~ February 3, 2019 (age 74)

Lyons,

Mr. Ronald Raymond Keen, age 74, of Lyons, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 3, 2019, after an extended illness.  He was musically talented and distinguished himself as a member of the Lyons Redcoat Marching Band, graduating from Lyons High School in 1962. He developed a lifetime love for the Georgia Bulldogs while attending the University of Georgia from 1962-1964.  He LOVED watching Saturday college football, “GO Dawgs!!”

As a hardware developer for Southern Bell, he was stationed and worked overseas in Thailand, Vietnam, & Saudi Arabia and spent six years traveling in between those countries during the Vietnam conflict.  After leaving Southern Bell, he spent many years with Sprint and lived in Dallas Texas for ten years before finally moved back to Georgia in 2012, where he retired.  After his retirement, he managed the front office of Griggers' Towing Company, owned by his close friend, Johnny Griggers, for many years, right up until a few months before his passing.  

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons, a two-term president of the Lyons Lions Club, as well as a member of the Vidalia-Lyons Moose Lodge # 1281. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Edgar Keen and Verna Helms Keen.

Ronald is survived by two children, Brett Keen (Kim) of Conway, Arkansas and Linda “Jo Jo” Keen-Poore Berton (Ronald) of Windham, New Hampshire; two sisters, Dorothy Keen Benedict of Ft. Myers, Florida and Linda Keen Blackburn (Lindsey) of Punta Gorda, Florida and four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.  

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9th at 10 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Lyons with Pastor Tommy Anderson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.
