Reverend Henry Dowd

Reverend Henry Dowd, age 79, of the Rock Springs Community, died Saturday, December 22, 2018, at his home, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Rock Springs and there all of his life.  He was a repair technician with Sears for thirty-four years, and was a school bus driver for twenty years with the Toombs County School System.  Brother Henry pastored for fifty-five years, including Antioch Holiness Baptist Church in Brunswick, Ohoopee Holiness Baptist Church, and was co-founder and pastored Lyons Holiness Church for forty years.  He started mission work in 1971, and made numerous mission trips to Mexico, Central America, and Haiti.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernice Dina Dowd; a granddaughter, MaryJo Dowd; parents, John and Mary Alice Walker Dowd; and eight siblings.

Reverend Dowd is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Esther Beasley Dowd; four children, Marvin Dowd and wife Shirley of Rock Springs, Lisa Beasley Smith of Memphis, Tennessee, Reverend Clayton Dowd and wife Wendy of Jesup, and Drayton Dowd and wife Kathy of Rock Springs; one sister, Lavonne Dowd Odom of the South Thompson Community; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday, December 24th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Chuck Bennett       and Reverend Neil Bridges officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cedar Crossing Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 8:00.
