South Thompson Community,
Reverend Harold Tucker, age 91, of the South Thompson Community, died Thursday, August 30, 2018, in Meadows Health and Rehabilitation in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was born in Alapaha in Berrien County, where he grew up, and lived there until serving in the U.S. Navy. He was called to the ministry in 1951, and served numerous churches in South Georgia. The first church he pastored was Leila-Weeks Chapel United Methodist Church in Ty Ty, several years at the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia, and many years at the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was also a member. He retired from the ministry in 1989 as Superintendent of the Dublin District. Reverend Tucker had a passion for the ministry, and a deep love for each of his congregations. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn G. Tucker in 2012; parents, John Clera Tucker and Willie Paulk Tucker; two grandchildren, Natalie Sprewell and Matthew Sprewell; and a son-in-law, Dale Sprewell.
Reverend Tucker is survived by three daughters, Karen T. Mason and husband Tommy of Vienna, Janice T. Sprewell of Brierfield, Alabama, and Gill T. Herndon and husband Bo of Johnson Corner; one sister, Elizabeth Moore and husband Autry of Alapaha; six grandchildren, Allison, Joan, Maghen, Jordie, Michael, and Sky; seven great-grandchildren, and one niece.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m. in the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at a later date in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
