Pastor Bob Corley, age 82, of Alston, died Friday, October 11, 2019, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness. He was a native of Hazlehurst and lived there until enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1958. In 1961, he moved to Brunswick and worked for Badcock and Wilcox for nineteen years. He started his ministry in 1982 when he moved to Toombs County and pastored New Corinth Baptist Church for nineteen years and later pastored Bethel Baptist Church in Wheeler County for fourteen years. Bob worked with the Toombs County Road Department for nineteen years and with the City of Lyons for sixteen years. He was a member of the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church where he also preached occasionally. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dena Marie Corley; parents, Hoke Smith Corley and Frankie Lee Conner Corley; one brother, Howard Corley; and two sisters, Doris Fowler and Shirley Ann Griffin.
Pastor Corley is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Sue Corley of Alston; four children, Darel Corley and wife Kim of the Ohoopee Community, Jim Corley and wife Kim of Vidalia, Renae Corley Higgs and husband Shannon of St. Augustine, Florida, and Steve Warnock Corley and wife Mardi of Fortson; one sister, Mary Davis of Uvalda; two brothers, Johnny Corley and wife Louise of Uvalda, and Ricky Corley and wife Sarah of Dublin; seven grandchildren, Dustin, Tyler, Dakota, Tanner, Grayson, Dillon and Derick; two great-grandchildren, Lakelynn and Raina; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 12th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Roberson and Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 9:00 until 11:00.
