Rachel Hayes "Atchison"

Mrs. Rachel Ary Hayes “Atchison”, age 98, of Glenwood, died Friday, April 6, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Glenwood and retired from her father’s store, Atchison Grocery. She was a member of Glenwood Methodist United Church, loved watching the Braves, tending to her flowers, and cooking for people. For well over the past fifty years, she has watched each inauguration and State of the Union address and enjoyed complaining about the presidency. She was preceded in death by her husband for forty-five years, Freddy Hayes; parents, Robert and Lola Atchison; and two brothers, Bob Atchison and Donald Atchison.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by one son, Freddy L. Hayes of Glenwood; three grandchildren, Darren L. Hayes of Spokane, Washington, Rhonda Palmer and husband John of San Francisco, California, and Amy Sims and husband Joey of Roberta; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The funeral graveside service will be held Saturday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. in the Glenwood City Cemetery with Pastor Janet Sack officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00.
