Vidalia,
Mrs. Phyllis Sims Wingate, age 66, of Vidalia, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness. She was a native of Augusta in Richmond County, and lived there until moving to Toombs County in 1968. She was a 1970 graduate of Vidalia High School, attended Georgia Southern University, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from South Georgia College in Douglas. Phyllis retired after twenty-nine years as Chief Counselor from Rogers State Prison in Reidsville. She was a member of Calvary on Aimwell, and was a former member of the Vidalia/Lyons Moose Lodge #1271. She loved her family; especially spending time with Addison and Tucker with their activities. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-three years, Harry R. Wingate; and her parents, Peggy and James Sims.
Phyllis is survived by one son, Jason Wingate and wife Dawn of Vidalia; one step-son, Doug Wingate of Lyons; former daughter-in-law, Kelly Wingate of Vidalia; two grandchildren, Addison Wingate and Tucker Wingate of Vidalia; one step-grandson, Trey Wingate; one brother, Jimmy Sims and wife Debra of Vidalia; one sister, Janet Sims Hutcheson and husband Stacy of Covington, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs, Harley, Buddy, Izzy, and Cash.
The funeral service will be held Friday, February 22nd at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Boatright officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Efton Green officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
