Pete Johnson

January 19, 1940 ~ August 17, 2019 (age 79)

Mr. William Peter “Pete” Johnson, age 79, of the Long Pond Community, died Saturday, August 17, 2019, in Meadows Health in Vidalia, after a brief illness.  He was a native of the Long Pond Community and lived in Montgomery County most of his life.  He was a 1958 graduate of Montgomery County High School and a 1960 graduate of Southern Tech in Marietta.  Pete retired after twenty years as a civil engineer from the Georgia Department of Transportation.  He worked with Blount and Ruark Contracting in Vidalia and retired again from Holland/Reeves Construction in Mt. Vernon.  He was best known as a certified surveyor.  He was a member of the Long Pond United Methodist Church, a member of Sons of the American Revolution, and was a former member the Jaycee’s and the Mt. Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.  Pete enjoyed golf, fishing, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Ann Johnson; a granddaughter, Angel Johnson; parents, Peter Johnson and Thelma Louisa McAllister Johnson; and a sister, Luanne Manning and husband R.L.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Gail McCrimmon Johnson of Long Pond; three children, Ginger Johnson White and husband Tracy of Long Pond, Brandee Beth Johnson of St. Simons Island, and Alexander Peter “Big Al” Johnson and wife Jesslyn of Higgston; five grandchildren, Zachary White of Long Pond, Josie Johnson of Higgston, MaryBeth White of Long Pond, Sali Rae Boyer of St. Simons Island, and Alex “Rocki” Johnson of Higgston; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday, August 19th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Arnie Raj, Reverend Joe Siman and Ben Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Long Pond Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
