Mr. Melvin Herbert “Mel” Santrock, age 76, of Cedar Crossing, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at his home, after a brief illness. He was born in Washington, D.C., grew up in Maryland, and lived in Ft. Pierce, Okeechobee, and Leesburg, Florida, before moving to Cedar Crossing ten years ago. Mel was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Dave’s Communications in Ft. Pierce after many years, and presently worked with Cedar Crossing Convenience Center for the past eight years. Mel was a HAM radio operator; and he enjoyed fishing, and riding and working his trike motorcycle. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlowe Melvin Santrock and Effie Smith Santrock; one sister, Letha Brower; and one brother, Kenneth Santrock.
Mel is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Beasley Santrock of Cedar Crossing; seven children, Dona Dixon and husband Revis of Folkston, Deborah Drake and husband Robert of Hortense, Carla Neely and husband Danny of Folkston, Melva Rockafellow and husband Kevin of Nahunta, Aaron Santrock of Ft. Pierce, Johnny Lee Beasley, Jr. and wife Tina of Glennville, and Christopher Brad Beasley and wife Carrie of Cedar Crossing; one sister, Joanne Tucker and husband Jay of Ft. Pierce; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 23rd at 3:00 p.m. in the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharpe Cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
