Max was a part of what makes Ailey and Mt. Vernon so special. He was a true gentleman and unashamed follower of Jesus Christ. He gave our son his first haircut, which I'm sure he did for many. My husband, who is English, enjoyed bringing him tea from England and they would sit and chat, especially about Chris, his English wife. We will miss you, Max, but we will meet again one day.

To the countless friends and family that our Max left behind: don't grieve for him as others who have no hope. He knew exactly where he headed & was so excited to meet his precious Jesus & his beloved wife once he reached that precious destination! There are many songs written about it, but the best-known is just to call it heaven! Max & I talked at least twice weekly about it & he knew it wouldn't a be long journey for him. He took that journey several days ago & is now in complete paradise!
We love you Bro. Max & already miss you, but I know you wouldn't step back on this old world one time for all of heaven's beauty! Take your rest--it is well deserved!

Max was my husband, Red's, first barber when he moved to the Vidalia/Mt. Vernon area in 1961. He & I always enjoyed being around Max & Chris. It was always a fun time when Max was around. He's an icon for Mount Vernon & will be sorely missed!

We are saddened to hear of Max's passing. He was a wonderful neighbor to us when we owned Cash Finance in Mt. Vernon. He was always most proud of his kids and grandkids and always beamed with pride when speaking of them. He was a great man with a huge heart. God bless you all.

I was very fond of Bro. Max, ever since I met him when my mother and I rented the house across the street from him a few years ago. After I moved, I would go by his home every now and then when I was in town to check on him and visit with him. He was such a sweet man, always was, to me. I always looked for him at church, and when I did not see him, asked if anyone had talked to him. He gave me hugs every time I would see him. Bro. Max holds a special place in my heart and I will dearly miss him. But, I know that he is now with his beloved Chris and in the presence of our LORD. What a grand and glorious place to be!
