Marvin Jack Smith

Mr. Marvin Jack Smith, age 83, of Ailey, died Friday, September 27, 2019, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was born in Iuka, Mississippi, and was raised in Sheffield, Alabama.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was serving in Berlin, Germany during the building of the Berlin wall.  He lived in Wauchula, Florida for half his life before moving to Toombs and Montgomery Counties in 1978.  He retired as a manager of Frito Lay and later worked with Mancini Packing Company.  He was a member of the Blockers Chapel Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe S. Smith and Virgie Lorene Borden Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Frances Marie Taylor Smith; four children, Renee Stevenson and husband Wess of Bowling Green, Florida, Dennis Smith and wife Lynn of Orlando, Florida, Angela Beasley and husband Dwayne of Vidalia, and Darian Taylor and wife Jo Ann of Alston; three sisters, Catherine Hallmark, Mary Elizabeth Morris and Betty Jo Proctor, all of Alabama; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, October 4th, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy York and Pastor Albert White officiating.  Burial will follow in the Blockers Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10:00 until just prior to the service.
