Mrs. Lynette Claxton Coleman, age 74, of Tarrytown, died Thursday, January 17, 2019, at her home, after a brief illness.  She was a native of Treutlen County, and has lived in Tarrytown for the past forty-five years.  She was a 1963 graduate of Montgomery County High School, a graduate of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and a graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, earning a Master’s Degree in Education.  She was a teacher at Adrian Elementary for five years, and retired after thirty years as a teacher with Montgomery County Schools.  Lynette was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association, and served as the Tarrytown Mayor for twelve years.  She was formerly president of Woodman of the World Lodge #770 in Tarrytown, and was an active member of the Tarrytown Baptist Church where she served on many church committees, including church secretary for forty years.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Coleman Arnsdorff and Amy Coleman; parents, William Zackie Claxton and Fannie Belle Beasley Claxton; and two brothers, Charles and Talmadge Claxton.

Mrs. Coleman is survived by her husband of fifty years, Gary Coleman of Tarrytown; two children, Teresa Coleman Stevens and husband Greg of Tarrytown, and Charles Coleman and wife Kathryn of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Bobby Claxton of Soperton, and Roy Claxton and wife Kathy of the Kibbee Community; eight grandchildren, Will Boyette, Dillon Boyette, George Arnsdorff, Brandon Arnsdorff, Michael Stevens and wife Shelby, Nikolas Stevens, Eva Grace Coleman, and Anthony Coleman; one great-grandchild, Mckinsey Stevens; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 20th at 3:00 p.m. in the Tarrytown Baptist Church with Reverend Daniel Gilliam and Reverend Donnie Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tarrytown City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
