Vidalia,
Mr. Lewis Hobson Van Dyke, age 62, of Lyons, died Thursday, September 13, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Vidalia and lived there until moving to Lyons twenty-seven years ago. He was a 1974 graduate of Vidalia High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. Lew served twelve years in the U.S. Navy, and retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections after more than twenty years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lyons where he sang in the choir, and was a member of the First Door on the Right Sunday School Class. He was a member of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330, the Scottish Rite and the York Rite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Ardis Van Dyke and Rebecca Duckworth Van Dyke; and a brother, Donnie Carlton Van Dyke.
Lew is survived by his wife, Bonnie Joyner Van Dyke of Lyons; one son, Gabe Garrett and wife Monica of Vidalia; two sisters, Patricia McCullough and husband Bill of Wadley, and Becky Van Dyke of Vidalia; one brother, Robbie Van Dyke and wife Sheila of Lyons; two granddaughters, Hadley Garrett and Lila Garrett of Lyons; three nieces, Samantha, Madison, and Katherine; and numerous cousins.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 16th at 3:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Lyons with Reverend Tom Tidwell, Reverend Tom Anderson, and Reverend Don Moye officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 until 8:00.
