Vidalia,
Mrs. Laverne “Granny O” Owens, age 77, of Vidalia, died Thursday, May 10, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. She was a native of Macon County where she lived most of her life, and most of the past twenty years in Vidalia. She was a graduate of Macon State College where she earned a degree in Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse, and worked at the Flint River Community Hospital in Montezuma for many years, and was a member of the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was an avid Georgia Bulldog Football and Atlanta Braves fan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elizabeth Edwards Lockerman; three brothers, Lock, Ray, and Mack Lockerman; and a daughter-in-law, Ann Abercrombie.
Mrs. Owens is survived by three children, Shirley Dowd and husband Mike of Vidalia, Ronny Abercrombie of Valdosta, and Robby Abercrombie and wife Jenny of Tifton; five grandchildren, Mandy Dowd, Jamie Dowd, Justin Abercrombie, Pierce Abercrombie, and Bill Abercrombie; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Hutcheson, Chase Dowd, and Katie Hutcheson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and granddogs.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 12th at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Reece Mincey officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Crossing Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Cedar Crossing Baptist Church on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
