Laverne A. Wommack Obituary

Rock Springs Community,

Mr. Laverne A. Wommack, age 88, of the Rock Springs Community, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at his home, after a brief illness.  He was a native of Toombs County, and lived in Rock Springs all of his life.  He retired after twenty-seven years from Carpenters Local #865 in Brunswick.  He was a master craftsman, and since 1985, has been designing and producing the world famous Wommack Cypress Boats.  He was a member of the Oasis Church of God and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.  He served four years in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.  He was Past Master and a member of Milliken Masonic Lodge #302 in Cedar Crossing, and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Wellington Cromwell “WC” Wommack and Mammie Wilkes Wommack.

Mr. Wommack is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ruth White Wommack; two sons, Bishop Gilbert Wommack and wife Paula, and Danny Wommack, all of Rock Springs; one sister, Minnie Lee Wommack of Gray; seven grandchildren, Anna Holcombe and husband Brent of Rock Springs, Katina Bowen and husband Stephen of the Five Points Community, Allison Hutcheson and husband Dusty of Rock Springs, Dustin Wommack and fiancé Erica Miller of Rock Springs, Danielle Hughes and husband Brandon of Vidalia, Chelsea Wommack, and Dylan Wommack, both of the Normantown Community; twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 19th at 3:00 p.m. in the Oasis Church of God with Bishop L.S. Seabolt, Pastor Gene Chaney, Bishop Gilbert Wommack, and Danny Wommack officiating.  Burial will follow in the Sharpe Cemetery near Alston with Masonic Rites. 

The family will receive friends on Monday evening at the Oasis Church of God beginning at 6:00.
