Vidalia,

Mr. Larry E. Owens, Sr., age 76, of Vidalia, of Vidalia, died Monday, June 5, 2017, in Bethany Oaks, in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Atlanta, grew up in Cobb County, and was a 1959 graduate of Campbell High School in Smyrna.  He retired from Atlantic Steel as supervisor after twenty years.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam, and was on a destroyer, the USS John A. Bole.  He attended the Center United Methodist Church, and enjoyed traveling and the outdoors.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessie Williams; his parents, Ernest Eugene Owens and Jessie Estelle Haney Owens; and brother, James Doyle Owens.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Edith McGuire Owens of Vidalia; four children, Larry Eugene Owens, Jr. and wife Sarah of Hillsboro, Oregon, Michael Kent Owens and wife Andrea of Kennesaw, Leslie Dawn Owens of Vidalia, and Earnest Dean Owens and wife Karen of Fairview, Tennessee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 13th at 11:00 a.m. in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Reverend Ron Womack and James Doyle Owens officiating.
