Joseph Bruce Odom, II

Mr. Joseph Bruce Odom, II, age 63, of Atlanta, died Monday, September 16, 2019, at his home after a sudden illness.  He was a native of Lyons, was a 1974 graduate of Lyons High School, a 1978 graduate of Georgia Southern earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.  He worked for two years with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and worked with the Athens Police Department for fourteen years.  Later, he earned a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Georgia State University.  He worked as an advisement counselor for sixteen years with Georgia Perimeter College in Atlanta which later became Georgia State College.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bruce Odom and Ruth Rebecca Harrison Odom.

Mr. Odom is survived by two sisters, Sharon Odom Richardson and husband Dave of New Knoxville, Ohio, and Gina Odom Thomas and husband John of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; three nieces, Haley Thomas of Seattle, Washington, Lillie Thomas of Mt. Pleasant, and Erin D’Onofrio and husband Cody of Dallas, Texas; and one aunt, Kay Truett of Vidalia.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 21st, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend David Blalock and Margaret G. Ehrlich, PhD. officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
