John M. Odom

Altamonte Springs, Florida

Mr. John M. Odom, age 92, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, died Thursday, January 24, 2018, in Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Vidalia, and a 1942 graduate of Vidalia High School, where he proudly played high school football.  In 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy, and served primarily in the Atlantic Theater during World War II.  He served on the flagship, the USS Catoctin, and was present during the Yalta Conference.  He was a radar man, served a total of twenty-three years in the Navy, and retired to Altamonte Springs in 1967.  He worked with General Electric, and retired again after eleven years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longwood, Florida.  He was preceded in death by two sons, John Alan Odom and an infant son, Danny Odom; parents, John Otis Odom and Cecile Wright Odom; and a brother, Howard Odom.

Mr. Odom is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Pauline Allen Odom of Altamonte Springs; two children, Linda Susan White and husband Charles of Madisonville, Tennessee, and David M. Odom of Altamonte Springs; two sisters, Carolyn Odom Parker of Vidalia, and Marlene Odom Duke of Cumming; two grandsons, Scott Julian and Bobby Julian; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, January 29th at 2:00 p.m. in the Pinecrest Cemetery with Reverend Bill Vansant officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
