Mr. John Edwin Roller, age 85, of Mt. Vernon, died suddenly on Saturday, December 21, 2019. He was a native of Mt. Vernon and lived there most of his life. During his early school years, he moved frequently and lived in many South Georgia smaller towns. John was a graduate of Montgomery County High School and a 1955 graduate of Georgia Tech earning a degree in Civil Engineering. After serving in the Public Health Services for two years, he returned to Mt. Vernon and worked with Holland/Reeves Construction Company. John was a dedicated road builder and continued to be associated with road work after his retirement. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Vidalia and served on the Mt. Vernon City Council for fifty-six years. For most of his life, he was a special advocate for Brewton-Parker College. John enjoyed golfing, tennis, banking, working with anything financial and going to Georgia Tech football games. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin Roller and Sarah Morrison Roller Wolcott and Bill Wolcott; and a nephew, Allen Bowden.
Mr. Roller is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Christie Radford Roller of Mt. Vernon; three children, Joanna Roller of Macon, Anne Roller of Mt. Vernon, and John Edwin Roller of Arlington, Virginia; one sister, Kathryn Bauer and husband Maurice of Vidalia; one niece, Anna Tipton; one nephew, John E. Morrison; and special friends, Karson and Kinsley.
A graveside memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 24th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with Reverend Denise Vaughn officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 until 7:00.
