Mr. Jerald “Newey” White, age 77, of Lyons, died Monday, April 9, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was a native of Toombs County and lived there most of his life.  He worked at Edwin I. Hatch Plant for many years, and his passion was teaching and mentoring young men in the electrical field.  He was a lifelong member of the Providence Missionary Baptist Church, and was a member of Acacia Masonic Lodge #452 in Savannah.  He enjoyed sitting in his rocking chair on his front porch, fishing, hunting, and square dancing.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie White and Bessie Orene Kelley White; and three siblings, Margaret White Jones, James “Toby” White, and Willie Mae “Petesy” White Smith.

Mr. White is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Shirley Griffin White of Lyons; two daughters, Lisa White Williams and husband David of Vidalia, and Lynne White Jay and husband Rhett of Lyons; two sisters, Delila White Stephens of Lyons, and Bessie Viola Halter of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Johnny White of Vidalia; five grandchildren, Justin Jay and wife Ashley, Joshua Jay and wife Kaywana, Jacob Jay and wife Rachel, Jonathan Jay, and Ava Williams; three great-grandchildren, D.J., Kaden, and Ella; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 12th at 1:00 p.m. in the Providence Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Jarrell Lillard, Reverend Frank Harrelson, and Reverend Lee Pulliam officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
