Vidalia,
Mr. Jay W. Howell, age 71, of Vidalia, died Monday, January 22, 2018, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Glascock County, and entered the U.S. Marine Corp in 1963. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam, and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1985. He was a State Veterans Service Officer, and retired after twenty years. With his position with the veteran’s administration, Jay was able to help countless veterans. He was a member of the Vidalia/Lyons Moose Lodge #1281, a member of the Legionnaires #128 with Fellowship Degree, American Legion Post #97 in Vidalia for twenty-five years, and a lifetime member of both, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Howell and Lerlean Kelly Howell; two sisters, Lisa Daughtry and Sara Kilpatrick; and three brothers, Alton Howell, Jim Howell, and Lamar Howell.
Mr. Howell is survived by a daughter, Kelly Howell Garner and husband Grady of Vidalia; one sister, Beatrice Howell of Lake Sinclair; two former wives, Essia Howell of Vidalia and Linda Faye Howell of Norwood; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 25th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
