Lyons,
Mr. James A. Dukes, age 73, of the Marvin Yancey Community, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County, and lived most of his life in Marvin Yancey. He was a graduate of Toombs Central High School, and served in the Army National Guard. He worked as a police officer with the Vidalia Police Department and as a correctional officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections in Reidsville. He attended the Providence Baptist Church. James was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Also, he enjoyed his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia White Dukes; a daughter, Michelle Lynn Dukes; parents, Barney Stanford Dukes and Pauline Clifton Dukes; two brothers, Theron Dukes and his wife Carol, and Oren Dukes.
Mr. Dukes is survived by one son, Allen Dukes of Columbia, Tennessee; two nieces, Renee Dukes Lynn and husband Ricky of Vidalia; Natalie Dukes Kight and husband Jordan of Marvin Yancey; two nephews, Greg Dukes and wife Lisa of the Providence Community, and Oren “Duke” Dukes and wife Leisa of Vidalia; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Dukes of Providence.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Toole officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
