Mr. Hugh Ted Meeks, Jr., age 65, of Collins, died Monday, July 29, 2019, at his home, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Vidalia and was a 1972 graduate of Vidalia High School. He attended Brewton-Parker College and Georgia Southern and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physicians Assistant and Microbiology. He worked as a physician’s assistant for Dr. Herbert Bedingfield for fifteen years. Later, he moved to Wrens where he was tax assessor in Jefferson County and then to Griffin where he taught high school in Barnesville for five years. He retired and moved back to Vidalia and has lived in Collins for the past eleven years. Ted was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, was a log home dealer and was passionate about bee keeping and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Ted Meeks, Sr. and Betty Ann Steptoe Meeks.
Mr. Meeks is survived by his wife, Barbara Meeks of Collins; one daughter, Amanda Nicole Meeks Arias and husband Miguel; one grandson, Rylan Arias, all of Moultrie; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 1st, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Deacon Joe Claroni, Joel Grier and James Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
