Santa Claus,

Mrs. Helen H. Wright, age 96, of Santa Claus, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, after a long life well lived.  She was a native of Ticonderoga, New York, and lived there until being transferred with Bell Telephone to Belle Glade, Florida in 1941.  She moved back to New York for a brief time before making her home permanent in Toombs County in 1949.  She was a Seventh day Adventist for over sixty-five years, and was a member of Vidalia Seventh day Advent Church.  She retired from the Toombs County schools in the lunchroom, and wrote a weekly column in the Lyons Progress called The Toombs Central News.  She served one term as Councilwoman for the City of Santa Claus, and was the official stamper for the city during Christmas.  She was the oldest resident of Santa Claus, and lived in the oldest house in Santa Claus.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold “Edgar” Wright, Sr.; a son, William Edgar Wright, a daughter, Mary Helen Wright; a grandson, Avery Toole; a great-grandson, Sergeant Dustin Wright; parents, William and Lena Abare Huestis; and three brothers.

Mrs. Wright is survived by seven children, Eddie Wright and wife Elaine of Santa Claus, Louise Steedley and husband Rick of Alma, Melanie Powell and husband Jerell of the Gray’s Landing Community, Walter Wright and wife Renee of Santa Claus, Tina Neal and husband Dan of Newberry, South Carolina, Theresa Warren and husband Ron of the Normantown Community, and Jeanne Morgan and husband Jimmy of Cobbtown; thirteen grandchildren, Mann Poole, Stacey Poole, Wesley Wright, Quortney Jernigan, Dianna Phillips, Mary Dawn Moore, Michele Cook, Michael Savage, Daniel Jackson Sears III, Marna Brooks, Arnold Wright III, Jeffery Wright, and Rusti Wright; thirty-one great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Nate Dubs and Mann Poole officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
