Goolene Kent Miles, age 91, of Lyons, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at home under the care of Community Hospice.  She was a native of Jenkins County and moved to Lyons in 1965.  She graduated from Millen High School, Andrew Junior College, and the University of Georgia.  She was married to Andrew Lane Miles for 64 years and attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  She completed her studies at Georgia Southwestern College with an M.Ed. She taught elementary school for 32 years.  She was actively involved in her church, teaching Sunday school, leading mission groups, and singing in the choir.  She loved her family and prayed for them every day.  She was a Silver Sister of Alpha Delta Kappa (Teacher) Sorority, Alpha Mu Chapter.  She held local offices in the Georgia Retired Educators Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Gooley and Myra Clements Kent; and six sisters.

Mrs. Miles is survived by one daughter Melisha Gilreath and her husband Ron; one son, Andrew L. Miles, Jr. and his wife Charlotte; six grandchildren, Bethany Gilreath, Drew Miles, Kathleen Gilreath Hunter, Cindy Walker, Crystal Hollingsworth, Dannette Holland; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann Kent Waters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons.  Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Metter. 

The family will receive friends at The Oaks Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until just prior to the service.
