Mr. Edwin J. Wilkes, age 77, of Lyons, died Thursday, January 31, 2019, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  He was born in Montgomery County, and lived in Lyons most of his life.  He was a U.S Army veteran, retired after forty years from Atlantic Wood in Vidalia, and was Baptist by faith.  Edwin enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, gardening, and raising chickens and rabbits.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd Wilkes and Leotha Banks Wilkes; and one sister, Barbara Mosley.

Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Jimmie Sue Wilkes; three children, Patricia Wilkes Powell and husband J.E., Glenn Wilkes and wife Angie, and Tina Wilkes Smith and husband Dobby, all of Lyons; eight grandchildren, Jamie Powell and wife Jennifer, Nick Smith and wife Ashlee, David Smith and fiancé Kaitlin, Matt Wilkes and fiancé Brooke, Brittany Wheeler and husband Curt, Robbie Wilkes and wife Rachel, Jeanie Dixon and husband Caleb, and Josh Wilkes; eight step-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a great-grandchild to be born in September, and a devoted friend, Wayne Horton.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in Lakeview Memorial Gardens with Johnny McCullough officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
