Vidalia,

Mrs. Edna Phillips Newman, age 77, died Saturday, August 19, 2017, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness.  She was a native of Stillmore, and lived there until moving Vidalia in 1955.  She worked as an insurance agent with Williamson Insurance Company for many years, and more recently as a substitute school teacher with Toombs County Lower Elementary for thirteen years.  She was a member of the Victory Baptist Church of Vidalia.  She was preceded in death by her husband, W.S. Newman; parents, Edwin and Ellie Jane Sutton; and two sisters, Theda Phillips and Martha Phillips.

Mrs. Newman is survived by three daughters, Jane Ann Newman Hancock and husband Gary of Dublin, Peggy Newman of East Dublin, and Melissa Newman Farmer and husband Rex of Vidalia; three sisters, Edwina Phillips Willis of Vidalia, Clyde Phillips Moore of Wrens, and Nita Phillips McNeal of Stillmore; two brothers, Rufus Phillips of Swainsboro, and Jimmy Phillips and wife Judy of Garfield; three grandchildren, Shea Phillips and husband Andy, Hali Farmer and fiancé Ethan, and Kala Jones and husband Justin; four great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Elleigh, Emma, and Eden; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dana Labit officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Hope Church Cemetery near Nunez.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
