Edna (Dent) Dees

Mrs. Edna Dent Dees, 92, of Lyons, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.  She was born in Wrightsville, and lived most of her life in Toombs County.  She was a 1942 graduate of Lyons High School, and retired from Oxford Industries after many years.  She was a member of the St. Matthews Church of God and was a Sunday school teacher.  She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, Jim Paul Dees; daughter, Brenda Dees Wilkes; parents Glenn and Irene Vanlandingham Dent; two sisters, Rema Dunagan, and Elsie Clarke; and three brothers, Veda Dent, Charles Dent, and Keith Dent. 

Mrs. Dees is survived by five daughters, Paula Toole and husband Jerome of Vidalia, Wynelle Batton of Lyons, Elinor Sellers and husband Johnny of Lyons, Elaine Dixon and husband Wendell of Vidalia, Rhanita Keaton and husband Lance of Douglas; one son, Preston Dees and wife Deborah of Sylvania; one son-in-law, Danny Wilkes of Cedar Crossing; one sister, Opal Smith Lassiter of Macon; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and a special friend and caregiver Evie Roberts. 

The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 4th at 2:00 p.m. in the Hardens Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Pastor Harry Sims, Pastor Carroll Gay, and Pastor Steven Toole officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 until 8:00.

Active pallbearers will be Lyle Wilkes, Eric Wilkes, Ryan Wilkes, Patrick Toole, Jonathan Toole, Dick Douglas, Allen Dukes, Matthew Dixon, Dirk Brantley, and Kirk Brantley. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Lynette Powell, members of St. Matthews Church of God, Hardens Chapel United Methodist Woman, and caregivers.
