Lyons,
Mr. Earl K. Kemp, age 91, of the Mt. Moriah Community, died Saturday, October 6, 2018, in The Oaks-Bethany in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of the Ohoopee Community, and lived most of his life in Mt. Moriah. He was a lifelong farmer, and attended the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army attached to the 345th Airborne Division, and was trained in California as part of the occupational force to go to Japan, but was soon released from active duty. He enjoyed hunting, and was an avid football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Watson Kemp and Laura Drake Kemp; three sisters, Francis Wilmont, Lucille Addis, and Faye James; two brothers, Jack Kemp and Gene Kemp; and a son-in-law, Charles P. DeLoach.
Mr. Kemp is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Betty Smiley Kemp of Mt. Moriah; four children, Dianne Kemp DeLoach of Glennville, Dale Kemp, Jody Kemp, both of Mt. Moriah, and Robert “Robby” Kemp of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kerri A. Mosley, Megan M. Bergeron and husband Norman, Richard D. Kemp and Brooke Peters, Stayton Kemp, Shaun Kemp, Amy Kemp, and Austin Kemp; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 16th at 3:00 p.m. in the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church with Reverend Jason Summers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
