Santa Claus,
Mr. Earl Horton, Jr., age 77, of Santa Claus, died Monday, May 14, 2018, at his home, after an extended illness. He was a native of Telfair County and moved to Toombs County in the late 1950’s. He retired after thirty-six years as an insurance agent with Life of Georgia, where he was the recipient of several President Club Awards. For many years, he served as Mayor, Mayor pro tem, and on the City Council for the City of Santa Claus. He was Baptist by faith, was a pigeon fancier, raised Show Type Racing Homers, enjoyed NASCAR, and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Horton, Sr. and Robbie Elizabeth Reddick Horton; a sister, Melba Waller; and an infant brother.
Mr. Horton is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Margie Horton of Santa Claus; two sons, Jeffery Horton and wife Sharon of Lyons, and Tim Horton and wife Tammy of Santa Claus; four grandchildren, Chelsea Todd and husband Cory of Lyons, Jessica Williams and husband Casey of Cobbtown, Rebecca Horton and Spencer Horton, both of Santa Claus; one great-granddaughter, Caroline Todd; six sisters, Ann Beckum and husband Bobby of Santa Claus, Iretta Meadows of Santa Claus, Patsy Murray and husband Dane of Vidalia, Connie Hutto and husband Stanley of Lyons; Debbie Moore and husband Mickey of Ailey; and Doris Wilkes of Kathleen; three brothers, Eddie Horton and wife Kathy, Harry Horton and wife Jean, and Charlie Horton and wife Inez, all of Vidalia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dannie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
