Higgston,
Mr. Douglas M. Morris, age 87, of Higgston, died Wednesday, February 20, 2019, in Treutlen Health and Rehabilitation in Soperton, after an extended illness. He was a native of Montgomery County, and lived in Higgston most of his life. He was a self-employed carpenter, and worked with Paul Anderson Youth Home for many years. Mr. Morris was a member and Deacon of the Higgston Baptist Church where he also sang in the choir. He used his talents as a carpenter for many projects at the church, and always assisted with Vacation Bible School. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and tending to his chickens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angus and Lila Willis Morris; one sister, Margaret Morris Mitchell; and three brothers, Victor Morris, Wallace Morris, and Julian Morris.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Mildred Thigpen Morris of Higgston, one sister, Delores Morris Johnson of Blackshear; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Thigpen Richards of Thomson; Grace McDonald Morris; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Higgston Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Rea officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
