Vidalia,

Mrs. Dorethea Buie “Dobbie” Thompson, age 93, of Vidalia, died Monday, August 14, 2017.  She was a native of Clarkton, North Carolina, and she and her late husband moved to Vidalia in the mid 1940’s.  In her early years in Vidalia, she worked with WVOP for several years.  She was a former member of the Eastern Star, and spent many enjoyable years playing golf at the Vidalia Country Club.  She was an Elder and member of the Vidalia Presbyterian Church, and for many years, was the bread provider for all church fellowship dinners.  She was an avid knitter, keeping her family and family and friends furnished with hand knitted dish cloths, even continuing into her years at The Oaks Assisted Living.  She was preceded in death by her husband William Robert “Bob” Thompson; daughter Gaye Thompson Dykes; granddaughter Jennifer Dykes Brown; parents Mitchell Mayhew Buie and Rowena Meares Buie; and thirteen siblings.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by one son, Freddy Thompson and wife Lynn of Vidalia; one sister, Mary Buie Little and husband Ben of Clarkton; four grandchildren, Bailey Thompson Brooks and husband Blake of Vidalia, Christopher Thompson and wife Beth of Houston, Texas, Samantha Thompson of Macon, and Nicole Fountain of Lyons; four great-grandchildren, Rhiannon Brown, Aly Brown, both of Vidalia, Austin Fountain and Alyssa Fountain, both of Lyons; numerous nieces, nephews, and a treasured caregiver and dear friend Tangie Harden of Vidalia.

The funeral service will be held Friday, August 18th at 3:00 p.m. in the Vidalia Presbyterian Church with Reverend Ron Gilreath and Jose Caraballo officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00, and will assemble at the residence of her son Freddy, 224 Woodbridge Circle, Vidalia.
