Mrs. Derotha Holland James Rocker, age 92, of Vidalia, died Sunday, August 18, 2019, in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons, after an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, a graduate of Lyons High School and lived in Vidalia most of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia, the Era Alexander Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. Derotha was an Emeritus member of the Eastern Star and the Georgia Pecan Growers Association. She enjoyed working in her yard, fishing, growing a garden, and traveling when she could. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Herbert James and Hardwick Rocker; parents, Joe Ward Holland and Stella Bazemore Holland; two sisters, Helen Higgs and Louise Holland; and two brothers, Pete Holland and J.W. Holland.
Mrs. Rocker is survived by one son, Charles H. James and wife Amber of Vidalia; one sister, Deloris Holland Kight and husband Charles Edwin of Fayetteville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Misty Peters and husband Kenny of Cordele, Stephanie Shumpert of Lexington, South Carolina, and Christopher Rigdon of Glennville; five great-grandchildren, Devon Gantt, Dillon Gantt, Caleb Shumpert, Alannah Peters and Walker Peters; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 21st, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend David Blalock officiating. Burial will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
