Lyons,
Mr. Clarence Powell, age 78, of the New Branch Community, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in Meadows Health in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Toombs County, and retired after twenty-one years as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. He retired again from Edwin I. Hatch Plant after twenty-two years as Senior Quality Inspector and Senior Plant Instructor. He was a faithful member of the Marvin United Methodist Church where he would occasionally speak in the absence of the pastor. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaston Ralph Powell and Mildred Coe Powell; three brothers, Larry Powell, Frank Powell, and Bobby Powell; and an infant sister, Norma Powell.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Bonnie Collins Powell of New Branch; three children, Debbie Powell Evans, Ricky Powell and wife Kim, all of Vidalia, and Randy Powell and wife Tiffany of New Branch; three sisters, Nellie Ruth Lewis of El Dorado, Arkansas, Lucille Odom of Vidalia, and Barbara Powell Thompson of Reidsville, seven grandchildren, Brandon Evans, Chelsea Evans, Miranda Walters, Justin Martins, Britany Gibson, Emily Powell, and Haley Powell; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Friday, June 1st at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kennedy and Reverend Dannie Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Marvin United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00.
